Total Drek

Or, the thoughts of several frustrated intellectuals on Sociology, Gaming, Science, Politics, Science Fiction, Religion, and whatever the hell else strikes their fancy. There is absolutely no reason why you should read this blog. None. Seriously. Go hit your back button. It's up in the upper left-hand corner of your browser... it says "Back." Don't say we didn't warn you.

Breaking News...

According to British sources fossil evidence indicating the existence of a race of Hobbits has been identified in Indonesia. Okay, not really. What's actually been discovered, and largely confirmed, is the existence of a small race of hominids that may have been living as recently as 12,000 years ago- which is after our own species, Homo Sapiens, is thought to have completed the annihilation of most other hominid species. This diminutive form of hominid, named Homo Floresiensis, is thought to have stood approximately 3 feet tall when fully grown, and appears to have existed since at least 74,000 years ago.

However excited the scientific community may be about this find, it is surpassed by the ecstatic joy of the Lord of the Rings geek community. Early reports suggest that an expedition is being planned to locate fossil evidence of Gandalf or, failing that, to locate a supply of funyuns.

I kid because I love, people.

Really.

For those who are interested, there is an article about this discovery in the May or June addition of National Geographic. You can also read the article online at: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2003/06/0611_030611_earliesthuman.html
However, if you get the article, it comes complete with artist renderings of the little fellows in comparison to homo sapiens and gila monsters! - D's SGf
