Total Drek

Or, the thoughts of several frustrated intellectuals on Sociology, Gaming, Science, Politics, Science Fiction, Religion, and whatever the hell else strikes their fancy. There is absolutely no reason why you should read this blog. None. Seriously. Go hit your back button. It's up in the upper left-hand corner of your browser... it says "Back." Don't say we didn't warn you.

I'm getting older....

This dawned on me after carefully examining the song list on my iPod. Of the 927 songs that I have, the most recent is from 2000*. Which was SIX YEARS AGO.

What's been going on in popular music since 2000? Someone please fill me in...

*The Machina album by the Smashing Pumpkins.

Unless you have an ear for the testicular cancer equivilent in music (i.e. Boy Bands and Teenage Hookers Who Sing), you haven't missed much.
Well, except Prince's new album, Musicology. That's pretty fuck-tacular.
There's also some indie rock which is worth listening to, like Jenny Lewis, Bright Eyes, The Decembrists and The Sharp Things. Otherwise, enjoy your ipod and block out the non-sensical stylings of today's wretched, wretched youth.

You're both old.

Built to Spill has a new album out. I'd also recommend Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, I just heard some interesting stuff from Elbow yesterday, and I've made a note to self to check out more from Antlerand. You might also like Neko Case.

Geez, where does one begin?

How about some online magazines:

Hybridmagazine.com
Filter
Pitchfork
The Big Takeover
Stylus

How about a top-albums-of-2005 list:

Glide Magazine

How about some field recordings from Xinjiang Province?

Listen while you work...
