Are you even fucking serious?!
During times of national crisis, we all like to imagine that our leaders will have something reassuring to tell us. Sadly, in a country governed by George W. Bush, what we get is this:
Oddly, I do find this to be a satisfying message because, hell, with all the devastation on the Gulf Coast, what I've really been worried about is Trent Lott's porch. The question has been keeping me up at night. Thank god Bush has promised that Lott's porch will be rebuilt- doubtless by some of the poorer citizens of New Orleans whose entire fucking lives have just been washed out to sea.
I'm going to go off somewhere now and swear.
Special thanks to Wonkette and the Washington Post for their quotations.
"We got a lot of rebuilding to do.... the good news is and it's hard for some to see it now but out of this chaos is going to come a fantastic gulf coast... out of the rubbles of Trent Lott's house -- the guy lost his entire house -- there's going to be fantastic house. I look forward to sitting on the porch. Out of New Orleans is going to come that great city again."

Hey now, have you ever lost your porch? I'm sure it's a very traumatic experience and my heart is filled with hope to know that Trent Lott's porch will be replaced. I know that every time I walk down the steps to our porch and notice the spot where the wood is rotting from last winter's rain I feel a little bit of panic. I can't imagine how much devestation I'd feel if the entire porch was simply gone.
Excuse me, I think I'm going to go bury my head in the sand somewhere before I start hurting people.
I was making that exact comment the yesterday after reading our beloved leader's heartfelt words to Trent Lott in his time of crisis and need.
You know, screw all those other people - particularly the poor and black citizens of New Orleans. I mean, what's camping out in the astrodome for a few months compared to the loss of a PORCH.
Anyway, I was gratified to notice that this morning the commentator on NPR made a more nuanced version of this commentary. It's nice to know others have noticed our commander is a moron.
Oops, oh yeah, and that was me...
